Every Shadowrun character has 4 physical attributes, 4 mental attributes, and 2 or 3 special attributes. Each attribute has a minimum value, maximum value, and maximum modification value.
|Agility||AGI||Measures your coordination, balance, and aptitude for precise motion.|
|Body||BOD||Your inherent toughness, resistance to contaminates and environment, and overall health.|
|Reaction||REA||Your reflexes and swiftness in response to outside forces.|
|Strength||STR||Measures your physical capacity to influence your surroundings by exerting force.|
|Charisma||CHA||Reflects your presence and force of personality.|
|Intuition||INT||Your perceptiveness and mental processing power.|
|Logic||LOG||Measures your capacity for knowledge, understanding, and reasoning.|
|Willpower||WIL||Encompasses determination and resistance to fear, uncertainty, and influence.|
|Edge||EDG||Your inherent luck and how well it can serve you.|
|Essence||ESS||The measure of how much of your natural body is uncorrupted by implants, prosthetics, and drugs.|
|Magic||MAG||An optional attribute measuring your talent at casting spells and interacting with spirits.|
|Resonance||RES||An optional attribute measuring your talent at interacting with the matrix and sprites.|
When building a character, all attributes start at 1 except for Essence, which starts at rating 6 by default. Also, you do not possess a Magic or Resonance attribute unless you purchase a quality that grants you that attribute (you may gain Magic or Resonance, but not both).
Maximum and Minimum Ratings
Each attribute has a minimum and maximum rating; usually 1 and 6, respectively. Each metatype has at least one attribute with modified minumum/maximum ratings. Any modifier to an attribute applies to both your minimum and maximum values, though racial modifiers cannot decrease an attribute’s minimum value below 1.
Prosthetics, spells, and other effects can modify your attributes directly. Only ratings acquired by spending BP or XP are considered natural ratings. A bonus to your attributes from any other source is considered an augmentation. Because it is unnatural, augmentation bonuses can allow your attribute’s rating to exceed the normal maximum rating for your character. However, the maximum bonus any attribute can receive from all combined augmentations is half the attribute’s natural maximum limit (round down).
For Example: An elf’s Charisma attribute normally has a maximum rating of 8. The maximum augmentation bonus that can be applied to an Elf’s Charisma rating is half this number (4). This means that all augmentations combined cannot increase an elf’s Charisma by more than 4 ratings, making the elf’s highest possible Charisma rating equal 12.
